Archiving Policy
Digital preservation, long-term access, system continuity, and author self-archiving.
Commitment to the Scholarly Record
Jurnal Venus is committed to preserving the integrity and continued accessibility of its published articles and their bibliographic records. Preservation arrangements are subject to documented institutional implementation and periodic review.

1. Digital Archiving and Preservation

Jurnal Venus, published by Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar, Indonesia, is committed to the long-term accessibility, integrity, and preservation of its published scholarly content. The journal uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform to present journal issues, article records, and full-text publications through its official website.

  • Published issues and articles are accessible through the Jurnal Venus Archives.
  • The journal seeks to retain complete, accurate versions of published articles, including associated bibliographic information and available supplementary materials.
  • When changes in file formats or publishing technology require migration, the editorial and technical teams will seek to preserve the readability and integrity of the scholarly record.

2. Local Archive and File Preservation

The official journal website serves as the principal point of access to published content. The journal aims to retain its version of record in durable, commonly supported digital formats and to protect the accuracy of its publication history.

  • Published articles are provided in PDF format where available, together with article titles, author information, abstracts, keywords, issue details, and publication dates.
  • The publisher and designated journal administrators are responsible for maintaining appropriate access to original publication files and essential metadata.
  • Corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions should be linked to the original article record rather than silently removing or overwriting the scholarly record.

3. System Backup and Recovery

To reduce the risk of permanent data loss, Jurnal Venus adopts the principle that journal content and platform records should be covered by documented institutional backup and recovery procedures. The publisher and authorized OJS technical administrators are responsible for implementing and verifying these procedures.

  • Backup arrangements should cover the OJS database, uploaded submission and publication files, journal settings, and other information needed to restore service.
  • Backup copies should, where feasible, be maintained separately from the production environment and protected against unauthorized access or modification.
  • Backup integrity, access permissions, and restoration procedures should be reviewed and tested periodically.
  • If service is interrupted, the editorial and technical teams will make reasonable efforts to recover content and restore access as promptly as circumstances permit.

4. Author Self-Archiving

In accordance with the journal’s open-access approach, Jurnal Venus supports non-exclusive self-archiving to increase access to published research, provided that authors comply with the applicable copyright and licensing terms.

  • Authors may deposit permitted versions of their manuscripts, including preprints, accepted manuscripts, and the published version where the applicable licence allows, in personal websites or institutional and subject repositories.
  • Repository records should clearly acknowledge the original publication in Jurnal Venus, including the article title, authors, year, journal citation, and DOI or direct article link where available.
  • Deposited versions should not misrepresent their publication status or replace the authoritative version of record hosted by Jurnal Venus.

5. Metadata, DOI, and Indexing

Jurnal Venus makes article information publicly discoverable through its official publishing platform and uses persistent identifiers for articles to which a DOI has been assigned. Bibliographic metadata supports citation, discovery, linking, and scholarly indexing.

  • The journal provides article-level bibliographic information and links to published full texts on its OJS website.
  • Where registered, an article DOI provides a persistent identifier and should resolve to the corresponding publication record.
  • The journal supports standard metadata sharing and harvesting features of OJS, including OAI-PMH where enabled and operational.
  • Indexing and discovery services improve the visibility of publications but do not, by themselves, constitute a verified independent preservation archive.

6. Independent Preservation and Continuity

Jurnal Venus recognizes the value of independent preservation services, including distributed archival networks such as PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and LOCKSS, for reducing dependence on a single website or server. Participation in any such service is subject to institutional authorization, platform compatibility, and successful archival deposit.

  • The journal may evaluate appropriate third-party preservation arrangements and document their implementation when adopted.
  • The journal does not claim current participation in PKP PN, LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, Portico, or any other preservation network unless the service and successful deposit have been independently verified.
  • In the event of platform migration, transfer of journal management, or cessation of publication, the publisher will seek an appropriate solution to maintain access to published issues and available article records.

7. Policy Oversight and Contact

The Jurnal Venus editorial board, together with the authorized OJS technical support team and the publisher, is responsible for reviewing this policy and coordinating preservation arrangements as technology and institutional resources evolve.
