Data Sharing & Reproducibility
Policy on research data availability, transparency, reproducibility, supporting materials, data restrictions, and responsible preservation of the scholarly record.

Policy Statement
Jurnal Venus supports transparency, research integrity, and reproducibility by encouraging authors to make the data, methods, analytical procedures, software, code, instruments, protocols, and other materials underlying their research available where reasonably possible.
Research data should be managed responsibly and reported with sufficient detail to allow readers, reviewers, and other researchers to understand how the findings were obtained. Where data cannot be shared because of legal, ethical, contractual, confidentiality, security, privacy, commercial, or institutional restrictions, authors must clearly explain the applicable limitation.
01
Definition of Research Data
Research data refers to information, records, observations, measurements, documentation, datasets, images, transcripts, calculations, simulation outputs, experimental results, survey responses, operational records, or other materials generated or collected as part of the research process and used to support the findings presented in a manuscript.
Depending on the nature of the study, supporting materials may also include research instruments, questionnaires, interview guides, analytical scripts, computer code, models, technical procedures, protocols, supplementary tables, or other materials necessary to understand or reproduce the work.
02
Data Sharing Expectations
Authors are encouraged to make the data supporting their published findings available to readers and other researchers whenever this can be done lawfully, ethically, and without violating legitimate confidentiality or security obligations.
Where appropriate, authors should:
  • deposit research data in a trusted institutional, disciplinary, or general-purpose repository;
  • provide a persistent identifier, DOI, or stable link to the deposited dataset where available;
  • provide sufficient documentation to allow the data to be understood and reused appropriately;
  • identify any applicable conditions, licenses, or restrictions governing reuse;
  • remove or protect personally identifiable, confidential, or sensitive information where necessary; and
  • ensure that shared data correspond accurately to the analyses and findings reported in the manuscript.
03
Data Availability Statement
Authors should include a Data Availability Statement in the declaration section of the manuscript, normally before the References. The statement should explain whether the data supporting the findings are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, subject to restrictions, or unavailable for legitimate reasons.
Example 1 — Publicly Available Data
Data Availability: The data supporting the findings of this study are available in [repository name] at [DOI or persistent URL].
Example 2 — Available Upon Request
Data Availability: The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
Example 3 — Restricted Data
Data Availability: The data are not publicly available because they contain confidential or commercially sensitive information. Access may be considered subject to permission from the relevant organization and applicable legal or contractual requirements.
Example 4 — No New Data
Data Availability: No new datasets were generated or analyzed for this study. All sources used are identified in the article and its reference list.
04
Reproducibility and Methodological Transparency
Manuscripts must describe research methods, data sources, analytical procedures, instruments, assumptions, and relevant methodological decisions with sufficient clarity to allow qualified readers to evaluate the validity and reproducibility of the research.
Authors should avoid omitting methodological details that materially affect interpretation of the results. When established procedures, standards, or analytical methods are used, appropriate references should be provided.
Where customized software, algorithms, models, scripts, or computational procedures are essential to the findings, authors are encouraged to provide sufficient documentation, code, pseudocode, parameter information, or supplementary material to support verification and reproducibility.
05
Confidential, Operational, and Maritime Data
Jurnal Venus recognizes that maritime research may involve operational records, ship data, port information, technical documentation, company records, safety reports, incident information, commercial information, or other materials that cannot always be made publicly available.
Authors must respect applicable confidentiality agreements, contractual obligations, intellectual property rights, security considerations, institutional policies, and legal requirements governing such data.
A legitimate restriction on data sharing will not automatically prevent publication. However, authors must clearly state why access is restricted and provide sufficient methodological information to enable appropriate editorial and scholarly evaluation.
06
Personal, Sensitive, and Confidential Data
Research data containing personally identifiable information, confidential information, sensitive institutional records, or protected information must not be publicly disclosed unless such disclosure is lawful, ethically appropriate, and consistent with the consent obtained from relevant participants or organizations.
Where possible and appropriate, authors should anonymize or de-identify research data before sharing. Data protection measures should be proportionate to the sensitivity of the information involved.
07
Data Repositories and Persistent Access
When depositing research data, authors are encouraged to use trusted repositories that provide appropriate preservation, persistent access, metadata, versioning, and citation mechanisms.
Where available, datasets should be assigned persistent identifiers such as Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs). Dataset citations should provide sufficient information for readers to identify and access the relevant research data.
08
Software, Code, Instruments, and Supporting Materials
Where software, analytical code, simulation models, questionnaires, instruments, technical drawings, protocols, or other materials are essential to understanding or reproducing the research, authors are encouraged to provide or describe these materials to the extent reasonably possible.
Proprietary materials do not necessarily need to be publicly disclosed where legitimate intellectual property, commercial, contractual, or security restrictions apply. Any such restrictions should be disclosed transparently.
09
Data Retention and Preservation
Authors are responsible for retaining research data, documentation, analysis records, and relevant supporting materials for an appropriate period in accordance with applicable institutional, ethical, legal, contractual, or funder requirements.
Data should be stored securely and in a manner that protects confidentiality, integrity, accessibility, and appropriate version control.
10
Data Requests During Editorial Review
During editorial assessment or peer review, the editorial team may request access to relevant underlying data, documentation, ethical approvals, analytical outputs, research instruments, or other supporting material where this is necessary to evaluate the validity, reliability, or integrity of a manuscript.
Where the data are confidential or restricted, authors should inform the editorial team and explain the restriction. The journal will seek to handle legitimately confidential supporting material appropriately.
11
Post-Publication Data Requests
After publication, authors should cooperate with reasonable requests concerning data or supporting materials where such requests relate to verification, clarification, replication, correction, or investigation of the published work.
Legitimate legal, ethical, privacy, contractual, security, or confidentiality restrictions may continue to limit disclosure. Such restrictions should be communicated clearly where relevant.
12
Data Integrity and Research Misconduct
Fabrication, falsification, deliberate misrepresentation, inappropriate manipulation, selective alteration, or intentional destruction of research data that compromises the integrity of scholarly work is inconsistent with the publication standards of Jurnal Venus.
Where concerns arise regarding the authenticity, accuracy, completeness, or integrity of data, the journal may request supporting evidence, suspend editorial processing, seek independent expert advice, contact relevant institutions, or take other appropriate action under the Allegation of Research Misconduct policy.
