Publication Ethics
Jurnal Venus is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar, Indonesia. The journal is committed to maintaining integrity, transparency, accountability, confidentiality, fairness, and academic independence throughout manuscript submission, peer review, editorial decision-making, production, publication, and post-publication evaluation.
This Publication Ethics statement establishes the responsibilities of authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher. In addressing publication-integrity concerns, Jurnal Venus refers to recognized principles and guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) together with applicable national regulations and scientific-journal standards.
- Originality: Authors must submit original scholarly work and must appropriately acknowledge and cite the work, ideas, data, methods, figures, tables, and other contributions of others.
- No simultaneous submission: A manuscript must not be under consideration by another journal while it is being evaluated by Jurnal Venus.
- Accurate reporting: Research results must be reported honestly and without fabrication, falsification, selective manipulation, or misleading presentation of data.
- Reference integrity: Authors must verify the existence, relevance, bibliographic accuracy, journal title, DOI, and other metadata of cited sources. Fabricated or unverifiable references are unacceptable.
- Authorship: Authorship must be limited to individuals who made substantial scholarly contributions to the work. All listed authors must approve the submitted manuscript and author order.
- Author contributions: The final manuscript must contain an Author Contributions statement describing the roles of the authors.
- Conflict of interest: Authors must disclose financial, professional, institutional, or personal interests that could reasonably influence the research or interpretation.
- Funding: Relevant sources of financial or institutional support must be disclosed.
- Artificial intelligence: Authors must comply with the Jurnal Venus AI Usage Policy and include an AI Usage Statement in the manuscript.
- Ethical approval: Research involving human participants, personal data, animals, hazardous materials, or other activities requiring ethical oversight must comply with applicable ethical standards and provide approval or consent information where required.
- Correction of errors: Authors who discover a significant error in a submitted or published article must promptly inform the editorial office and cooperate in correcting the scholarly record.
Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant scholarly expertise. Jurnal Venus applies a double-blind peer-review process.
- Confidentiality: Reviewers must keep manuscripts, supplementary materials, correspondence, and review reports confidential.
- Objectivity: Reviews must be scholarly, constructive, evidence-based, and free from personal criticism or discriminatory judgment.
- Competence: Reviewers should accept assignments only when they possess appropriate expertise and can complete the review within the journal's requested timeframe.
- Conflict of interest: Reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts and decline assignments when impartial evaluation cannot reasonably be maintained.
- Research-integrity concerns: Reviewers who identify possible plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated references, manipulated data, or other misconduct should report the concern confidentially to the handling editor.
- Artificial intelligence: Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or review materials to AI systems and must not use generative AI to evaluate manuscripts or generate review reports.
- Editorial independence: Decisions must be based on scholarly quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, relevance to the journal, and the peer-review record.
- Fair evaluation: Manuscripts must be evaluated without discrimination based on author identity, nationality, gender, institutional affiliation, religion, or other irrelevant characteristics.
- Confidentiality: Editors must protect unpublished manuscripts and associated editorial information.
- Reviewer selection: Editors must appoint reviewers with relevant expertise and avoid reviewers with known conflicts of interest.
- Integrity of editorial records: Significant editorial screening, reviewer assignments, review reports, revisions, and decisions should be appropriately recorded through the journal management system.
- Research misconduct: Editors must investigate credible allegations fairly and should not treat similarity percentages, AI-detection results, or suspicion alone as conclusive evidence of misconduct.
When an Editor-in-Chief, editor, editorial board member, reviewer, or other person involved in Jurnal Venus is an author or co-author of a submitted manuscript, that individual must not participate in the initial evaluation, reviewer selection, peer-review communication, editorial discussion, or final decision concerning the manuscript. The submission must be handled independently by another qualified editor who has no relevant conflict of interest.
Jurnal Venus considers the following matters potential breaches of research or publication integrity:
- plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse;
- fabrication or falsification of data, results, images, references, or research records;
- duplicate, redundant, or simultaneous publication;
- fabricated, false, unverifiable, or deliberately misleading references;
- inappropriate authorship, ghost authorship, or gift authorship;
- undisclosed conflicts of interest;
- manipulated peer review or reviewer identity;
- inappropriate or undisclosed use of artificial intelligence;
- other conduct that materially compromises the accuracy, reliability, originality, or integrity of the scholarly record.
Allegations of misconduct will be assessed confidentially, fairly, and proportionately. Editors may request explanations, supporting documentation, original data, source material, ethical approvals, or other relevant evidence. The person concerned should normally be given an appropriate opportunity to respond.
Depending on the evidence and severity of the concern, editorial action may include requesting correction, suspending processing, rejecting a manuscript, excluding a compromised peer review, issuing a correction, publishing an expression of concern, retracting an article, or referring a substantiated matter to the relevant institution or authority where appropriate.
Jurnal Venus is committed to preserving the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record. When a significant error or integrity concern is identified after publication, the journal may issue an appropriate correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with its Corrections and Retractions Policy. Post-publication notices should remain linked to the original article and clearly identify the reason for the action.
Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar supports the editorial independence of Jurnal Venus and is committed to maintaining the infrastructure, policies, archival continuity, and organizational environment necessary for responsible scholarly publishing. The publisher must not interfere improperly with individual editorial decisions and should support appropriate action when ethical or publication-integrity concerns arise.
Authors, reviewers, readers, and other interested parties may raise concerns regarding editorial handling, ethical matters, or published content through the journal's Complaints and Appeals procedure. Appeals should provide a clear explanation and relevant supporting evidence. An appeal does not automatically reverse an editorial decision.
Questions, complaints, or confidential reports concerning potential research or publication misconduct may be submitted to the Jurnal Venus editorial office. Reports should provide sufficient information to allow a fair and appropriate preliminary assessment.
