Ethical Oversight
Policy on ethical approval, informed consent, privacy, confidentiality, vulnerable participants, research integrity, and responsible conduct of research.

Policy Statement
Jurnal Venus is committed to ensuring that research published in the journal is conducted responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with applicable institutional, professional, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all research involving human participants, personal or confidential information, vulnerable populations, animals where applicable, institutional records, safety-sensitive environments, or other ethically sensitive materials has been conducted with appropriate ethical oversight and necessary permissions.
Where ethical approval is required, authors must obtain approval from an appropriate ethics committee, institutional review board, authorized institutional body, or other relevant authority before conducting the research.
01
Ethical Approval
Research requiring ethical review must receive approval from an appropriate ethics committee or authorized institutional body before data collection or other research activities begin.
Where applicable, the manuscript should identify the name of the approving institution or ethics committee, approval or reference number, and date of approval.
Authors must not claim ethical approval that has not been formally granted. Fabricated, altered, misleading, or unverifiable ethical approval information may be treated as a research-integrity concern.
02
Informed Consent
Research involving human participants should obtain informed consent where required. Participants should be provided with sufficient information about the purpose of the research, the nature of their participation, relevant risks or benefits, confidentiality arrangements, and their rights.
Consent should be voluntary and obtained without coercion or inappropriate influence. Where written consent is not practical or where an ethics committee has approved another consent procedure, authors should explain the approach used.
Where identifiable personal information, quotations, images, photographs, audio, video, or other potentially identifying material is published, authors should ensure that appropriate consent for publication has been obtained where necessary.
03
Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must protect the privacy, confidentiality, and legitimate interests of research participants, institutions, organizations, companies, and other parties whose information is used in the research.
Personally identifiable information, confidential institutional records, commercially sensitive information, operational data, or protected materials should not be disclosed unless such disclosure is lawful, ethically appropriate, and supported by appropriate permission.
Where appropriate, authors should anonymize or de-identify data before publication while ensuring that the scholarly meaning and integrity of the research are preserved.
04
Vulnerable Participants
Research involving vulnerable individuals or groups requires particular ethical care. Vulnerability may arise from age, disability, dependency, power imbalance, employment relationships, socioeconomic circumstances, limited decision-making capacity, or other conditions affecting a person's ability to provide fully voluntary consent.
Authors should demonstrate that appropriate safeguards were implemented and that the participation of vulnerable individuals was scientifically justified and ethically appropriate.
05
Maritime, Workplace, and Operational Research
Jurnal Venus recognizes that maritime research may involve seafarers, cadets, port workers, vessel crews, maritime institutions, shipping companies, shipboard operations, port activities, safety investigations, training environments, or other professional settings where hierarchical or employment relationships may affect participation.
Authors should ensure that participation is voluntary and that individuals are not pressured to participate because of employment, academic evaluation, command hierarchy, supervisory relationships, or institutional authority.
Research involving operationally sensitive information, safety records, incident investigations, vessel documentation, company information, or port data should also comply with relevant permission, confidentiality, security, and institutional requirements.
06
Institutional and Organizational Permission
Where access to participants, facilities, operational records, company data, institutional documents, or restricted research environments requires authorization, authors are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permission before conducting the research or using the relevant materials.
Permission to access an organization does not automatically replace individual informed consent or formal ethical approval where either is otherwise required.
07
Research Involving Animals
Where research involves animals, authors must comply with applicable ethical, institutional, professional, and legal requirements concerning animal welfare and research conduct.
Where ethical approval is required, authors should provide information concerning the approving body and relevant approval details in the manuscript.
08
Safety and Environmental Responsibility
Research activities should be designed and conducted in a manner that does not expose participants, researchers, crew members, organizations, communities, vessels, infrastructure, or the environment to unnecessary or unreasonable risk.
Authors are responsible for complying with applicable safety procedures, environmental requirements, operational restrictions, and professional standards relevant to their research.
09
Ethical Approval and Consent Statement
Where applicable, authors should include an Ethical Approval and/or Informed Consent statement in the declaration section of the manuscript before the References.

10
Editorial Verification
During editorial assessment or peer review, Jurnal Venus may request supporting documentation relating to ethical approval, informed consent, institutional permission, data protection, research authorization, or other ethical matters relevant to the manuscript.
The journal may seek clarification from authors or, where appropriate, advice from an independent expert, ethics committee, institution, or other relevant authority when ethical compliance is unclear.
11
Ethical Concerns and Non-Compliance
If concerns arise regarding ethical approval, informed consent, participant protection, privacy, confidentiality, research authorization, safety, or other ethical aspects of submitted or published research, Jurnal Venus may request clarification and supporting documentation.
Where serious concerns cannot be resolved, the journal may suspend editorial processing, reject a manuscript, contact an appropriate institution or authority, publish a correction or expression of concern, retract an article, or take another proportionate action in accordance with applicable journal policies.
Suspected fabrication of ethical approval, consent documentation, permissions, or other research-integrity information may be handled under the Allegation of Research Misconduct policy.
