This study examines a ship blackout incident that was occasioned by a huge disparity in exhaust gas temperature in a diesel generator. Data were collected by observing, interviewing, documenting and reviewing the literature using a qualitative descriptive design and Fishbone diagram as a tool of analysis. The root cause of the study has been cited as failure in combustion in one of the cylinders brought about by mechanical slip in the fuel rack system. Results show that problems in the delivery of fuel, including leakages in the pipes, corrosion, stuck fuel racks, and poor monitoring cause imbalances during combustion. Such imbalances increase the exhaust temperatures causing extreme degradation of performance and resultant blackouts. To avoid the occurrence in future, ensure the stability of the generators, and minimize the loss of the economy, this paper can recommend planned preventive maintenance, stringent monitoring schedule, and thorough documentation, so that the fuel system has the best safety.
Didik Dwi Suharso Copyright (c) 2026 JURNAL VENUS https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/851 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0800 Analysis of Tank Cleaning Implementation Using Crude Oil Washing on MT. Swordfish https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/852
The implementation of Crude Oil Washing (COW) in the tank cleaning process on board the MT Swordfish still faces various technical and operational challenges, even though this method is considered more effective and environmentally friendly because it uses crude oil as a cleaning medium. This study aims to analyze the obstacles that arise in the implementation of COW and evaluate the efforts made to overcome these obstacles. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through triangulation techniques. The results of the study show that the implementation of COW faces several major obstacles, both technical and non-technical. Technically, the problems found include leaks in the COW pipe due to corrosion, disturbances in the Butterworth automatic system, and rust accumulation on the purging pipe and manhole components. Non-technical obstacles included the crew's limited understanding of COW procedures and work fatigue caused by insufficient personnel. To overcome these problems, various efforts were made, including equipment repairs and routine maintenance, improving the crew's understanding through briefing activities, and adjusting the task distribution system. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the success of COW implementation is highly dependent on the condition of the equipment and the competence of the crew. Therefore, planned maintenance and continuous training are needed to improve efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability in tank cleaning activities.
ISKANDAR Copyright (c) 2026 JURNAL VENUS https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/852 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0800 The Strategy for Preventing Delays in the Crew Change Process on the Fleet of PT. Satrya Maritim Indonesia https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/850
This study aims to explore the factors contributing to delays in crew change processes at PT Satrya Maritim Indonesia and propose strategic solutions to mitigate these delays. Using a qualitative approach, the research involves in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis to identify both internal and external factors influencing the delays. Internal factors include limited standby crew, unstructured crew rotation planning, and administrative errors, while external factors involve delays in visa and work permit processing, sudden changes in immigration policies, and weather-related transportation disruptions. The consequences of these delays are significant, impacting the company financially through fines, operational disruptions, and a decrease in crew performance due to extended work periods. The study recommends implementing a structured timeline for crew change, enhancing the standby crew database, digitalizing crew management systems, and improving coordination between internal and external parties. By adopting these strategies, PT Satrya Maritim Indonesia can reduce delays, enhance operational efficiency, improve safety, and strengthen its competitiveness in the global maritime industry.
Markus Asta Copyright (c) 2026 JURNAL VENUS https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/850 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0800 SERVICE OF MOORING, PILOTAGE, AND TUGGING IN SUPPORTING THE SMOOTH OPERATION OF SHIPS AT TANJUNG EMAS SEMARANG PORT https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/848
This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of pilotage, towage, and mooring services at Tanjung Emas Port Semarang, as well as the factors influencing the effectiveness of these three services. The findings indicate that pilotage services at Tanjung Emas Port take an average of 1.5 hours, which is longer than the expected standard time. The longer pilotage time is due to limited pilot personnel and insufficient pilot vessel capacity to handle large ships. Towage services also significantly affect the waiting time of ships, with an average towage delay of 1-2 hours, which is longer than the desired standard. The limited towage vessel capacity and lack of coordination between towage officers hinder the efficiency of towage services. Mooring services, especially at the lower berth of the Samudera dock, are affected by extreme weather conditions, such as rob, which leads to delays in mooring ships. The factors affecting the effectiveness of these three services include limitations in human resource capacity, vessel capacity (towage and pilot vessels), and weather impacts, which can delay service processes. The multiple linear regression model used in this study shows that pilotage, towage, and mooring services collectively explain 69.2% of the variation in port effectiveness. Therefore, towage vessel capacity, pilot personnel, and mooring infrastructure that can withstand adverse weather conditions are key factors that need to be addressed to improve port operational effectiveness.
MUHAMMAD IDRIS; Agus Sulistiono Copyright (c) 2026 JURNAL VENUS https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/848 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0800 Optimizing Lifting Equipment Safety in Container Handling Operations: A Comprehensive Strategy to Minimize Workplace Accidents at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas New Makassar https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/849
Workplace accidents at ports, particularly during the operation of container handling equipment, remain a critical issue that threatens both worker safety and operational efficiency. At the New Makassar Container Terminal, despite the implementation of safety procedures, gaps in their execution persist, increasing the risk of accidents. This study aims to identify the factors affecting workplace safety in the operation of lifting equipment at the New Makassar Container Terminal and to formulate strategies for optimizing workplace safety. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative methods (case study, in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis) with quantitative methods (statistical analysis of accident data). The findings indicate that technical factors, such as equipment condition and maintenance, human factors related to training and safety communication, and environmental factors like extreme weather, significantly contribute to workplace accidents. This research recommends enhancing preventive equipment maintenance, improving the socialization of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and implementing digital technology for real-time monitoring of equipment and weather conditions to improve workplace safety at the port. These findings are applicable not only to large ports in Indonesia but also globally.
AGUS SULISTIONO Copyright (c) 2026 JURNAL VENUS https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/849 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0800 Mental Health of Maritime Cadets in the Digital Era https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/858
This study aims to analyse the mental health needs and patterns of psychosocial support among maritime cadets in the digital era, particularly in anticipation of the 2026 amendment to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW). A qualitative Netnographic approach was employed to analyse public Instagram content related to maritime cadets. Data were collected from 20 digital postings and processed using NVivo thematic coding analysis.
The findings indicate that the dominant narrative within the digital ecosystem of maritime cadets is “appreciation and positive support,” representing 70% of all coded narratives. Notably, 68.6% of these supportive narratives originate from general internet users, suggesting that emotional validation is largely derived from public digital audiences. In contrast, narratives coded under “struggle” account for only 1.3% of total mentions, indicating possible impression management in social media environments.
Digital support functions as a proxy protective factor against psychological pressure. However, the dominance of image-based validation may create a gap between public perception and actual psychological experiences. This study contributes to maritime mental health literature by positioning digital social support as a critical mediating variable and recommends that maritime institutions integrate authentic mental health support programs in preparation for upcoming STCW standards.

Rosmawati, Oktavera Sulistiana, Feronika Sekar Puriningsih, Ludfi Pratiwi Bowo, Henny Pasandang Nari Copyright (c) 2026 JURNAL VENUS https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/858 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0800 ANALYSIS OF DELAYS PREVENTION EFFORTS IN THE LOADING PROCESS AT XIN LIN HAI MV 16 https://jurnal.pipmakassar.ac.id/index.php/vns/article/view/853
This research aims to understand and prevent delays in the loading process and preparation of the loading space.
